Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend the Microsoft Tech Summit in Montreal. It was a great event, very well organized and mainly plenty of excellent sessions and interesting demos. I was in the session about Azure, it is indisputably one of the best alternatives of the big cloud platforms. It is very notorious the big IT movement we had in Montreal, and very focused on the new develops including AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cloud and Big Data. The first speaker mentioned a number that catches my attention, he said that it is expected to have 189 000 positions on IT that won’t be covered the next year 2019.
One of the most recurrent subjects was the end of the support for SQL Server 2008/2008 R2. It was originally scheduled for 2014 and the extended phase for the support is going to end on July 9, 2019. The main alternatives are: the migration to Azure and get free extended security updates or upgrading on-premises environments. You could get more info in this post.
I am happy to see the bigger integration between tools like SQL Server and MS Power BI. Also, it was a privilege to know first-hand what’s new about Azure and its projections in the immediate future. The event was an awesome chance to discuss, learn and share with Data Professional Community in Montreal!
